The event launch playbook we use

How we plan a product launch from concept to post-event reporting.

The event launch playbook we use

Launch events fail in predictable ways: the wrong people in the room, a programme that runs long, and nothing to show for it afterwards. The playbook below exists to remove those three.

Start with the outcome, not the venue

What should be true the morning after? Orders placed, press coverage, distributor sign-ups, a library of content. Pick one primary outcome. The guest list, the format and the budget all follow from it, and most disagreements during planning disappear once it is written down.

Design the programme backwards

Decide the single moment you want people to photograph and talk about, then build the running order around it. Keep speeches short and early. Give people a reason to stay after the formal part, because that is where the conversations that lead to the outcome actually happen.

Capture as if the event is content

A launch is one evening; the photos and video from it work for months. Brief the crew on the shots you need before the day, and plan for the edit to be out while the event is still fresh. Then report against the outcome you chose at the start, honestly, so the next one is better.
